WordPress – How to set Featured Images in Bulk Posts
Featured images help us get the gist of a post in an instant. However, if you have hundreds of posts that don’t have these images already, it’s very painful trying to set them one by one. It’s the situation I found myself in some years back. I had hundreds of technical posts, I wanted to show some thumbnails along with the post excerpts in either a grid or list. I thought about trying to edit them one by one and it wasn’t very wise for me. Given they were technical posts, I didn’t have to really set some particular image for only some particular post. It was okay to assign them relevant images according to category. Or even an easier but acceptable manner was just assign them random images.

Through Custom Bulk/Quick Edit, you have the option to edit post meta via text, checkbox, radio, select, and textarea inputs within Bulk Edit and Quick Edit screens. Further, you can enable editing of category and tag taxonomies that don’t show up already. Next, taxnomony, checkbox, radio, and select fields have an option to be reset, as in remove current options during Bulk Editing. If you change your theme to one that uses a different size featured image, it’s a good idea to regenerate your thumbnails. You can use a free plugin called Regenerate Thumbnails for this. To use the plugin, first change your thumbnail sizes under Settings > Media. (If you’ve changed themes, this should be done automatically.) Once the plugin is installed and activated, view your Media Library in list view. Then, select all and choose “Regenerate Thumbnails” under the bulk actions dropdown.

Bulk Edit in 2 Steps
Hi, thanks for this great tutorial! But I have one question – if I need to add a number of custom fields (about 20), to bulk editor should I also add it to admin columns? As I understand from your quick edit tutorial this is required action, but if I add each of my 20 fields to admin columns it will look weird and it will be hard to use. Can you clarify, please?
