What Features are Coming in WordPress 3.6

A WP blog about WP
As you know that WordPress has support for Post Formats and custom post formats. However, the old interface was not very noticeable. In WordPress 3.6, there will be a new user interface for post formats. Users will be able to choose and switch between post formats, and the edit area will change based on the post format. Inspiration for these changes comes from Alex King’s post format UI plugin, we showed you earlier how to install Post Format UI Plugin in WordPress 3.5. Folks are submitting ideas and wireframes as to what Post Formats UI should look like. Below is a mockup submitted by Mel Choyce:

Upcoming Features of WordPress 3.6
It looks great but for now kind of confusing for me & somehow not quite relevant with the way things are these days. For example the ‘Status’. It might have worked if this was released years ago when social network just started to bloom, where the only form of status or tweet possible is text. But now, my understanding of a ‘status’ update could be anything. It could be just text, could be an image or gallery of images, or even bunch of videos. What do we call this kind of ‘status’ then?
What’s New Features are Coming up in WordPress 3.6
According to Helen Hou-Sandi (project lead for the post formats UI update in WP 3.6), the post formats UI will be revised to help users get a better understanding of each format. The big update to Post Formats for 3.6 is the admin user interface. They are currently seeking wire-frame ideas for the user interface for each post format (i.e. chat, quote, link, image, video). Several sources of inspiration will be worked in, in particular CF Post Formats by Alex King, wordpress.com UI and the famous Tumblr interface. Users will be able to choose and switch between post formats, and the edit area will change based on the post format.

A Preview of Upcoming WordPress 3.6
We developers don’t like so many updates, I mean we do understand the importance of updates but the core changes…. that just… you know. So if you are a developer, you should test your themes and plugins right now, before the final version releases. You should also upgrade your themes according to the new post formats feature. You can look in Twenty Thirteen for inspiration code.

Up-and-Coming in WordPress 3.6
As always, a new year brings a new default theme. Apparently the new theme is a departure from the previous style, with a bolder color scheme. It comes “pre-marinated with playfulness and warmth and opinions.” Make of that what you will. Sadly, one of the most anticipated features of 3.6 has been bumped from this release. We won’t be seeing the expected Editorial Flow additions. WordPress 3.6 is scheduled to be released at the end of April, but if you can’t wait to get your hands on the new features, or would like to help with bug hunting, you can give the beta a spin when it’s released. You probably shouldn’t do this on your production site.

The Post Formats UI Feature Coming to WordPress 3.6
I think this is the one feature I’ll be most looking forward to. When they first introduced Post Formats, everyone thought they were a great idea (even for sites that don’t want to look like your bog standard blog), but sort of left the door open with regards to everything else. I see this as the opportunity to close that stable door before any more horses bolt! ????
What's Coming in WordPress 4.8 – See New Features in Action
Actually, it’s quite stunning that it took WordPress 33 individual major releases to finally deliver something as seemingly basic as an image widget. Overall, this is another great step towards making the experience better and more streamlined for the users. The new widget perks are really nice … took some time for these – image widget, formatting, etc.Claudiu Dascalescu, ThemeIsleAs you can see, the new widget allows you to pick an image from the library or upload a new one. And since the button triggers the WordPress Media Library, this means that you can also insert your image from a URL.The same goes for the video and audio widgets, too:Audio widgetVideo widget Go to top

WordPress 3.6- What to Expect
Since auto save is important to a writer’s workflow, the lack of implementation forces many to switch to external editors. This keeps them from writing directly into the WordPress admin. This alone will help with expired cookies, loss of connection, core errors browser crashes, etc., when writing in WordPress. A WP Heartbeat API will send requests to the server every 15 seconds and trigger events on receiving data. This is aimed at auto-save and post locking. Post locking will prevent conflicts and loss of data resulting from editing of a post and auto-save will prevent loss of data between saving post revisions to the database.

Thanks to the efforts of Helen Hou-Sandi and many others, Post Formats got a face lift. The new user interface gives more visibility to post formats and also makes it easier to use. Additional custom meta fields give more structure to each post format and provided theme developers more control in customizing their look.
WordPress 3.6: What to Expect from the Most Promising Update in a Long Time
…we should never lose posts due to expired cookies, loss of connection, inadvertent navigation…plugin or core errors on save, browser crashes, OS crashes, cats walking on keyboards, children drooling in keyboards, etc. I want people to trust WordPress with their posts. They should never fear that something they’ve spent time creating or editing should go away due to their mistake or ours or that of a third party. Mistakes and errors should be recoverable. I can’t stress enough how important it is that people believe this and have good reason to believe it. If a post gets lost, there is a catastrophic loss of trust, that could take years to be regained (if indeed it ever is). This is people’s time and their creative output we’re talking about. If we’re not valuing those things above all else, then our priorities are seriously out of order. This is an all-hands-on-deck item for 3.6.
